What is this?
This is where you can search for dog breeds of various types and gaze at their
pictures. May be even decide what kind of doggo you want to get.
How do I use it?
Enter part or whole of a breed name in the search box and press enter (or leave it
blank - up to you). Pictures of dogs of resulting breeds will show up in the middle section.
Scroll horizontally (if your browser window is wide enough) or vertically to look at all the
search results. Hover (click on mobile devices) over any picture to view more details of the
breed. Filter for breed group and temperament using the buttons underneath the pictures section.
How do the filters work?
If you select a breed group, pictures of dogs with that breed group will show up. If
you select more than one, then dogs with breed group matching any of the selected ones
will show up. If you select none, it is the same as selecting all. Similarly for temperament.
The two filters intersect - i.e., dogs shown will be of breeds that match any
of the selected breed groups and also match at least one of selected temperaments. The
breed groups and temperaments listed appear in the order of their frequency of occurance within
the search results - the more dogs with that group or temperament - the earlier it is listed.
Where do you get all this info from?
All this information, including the pictures, is from TheDogAPI
run by a guy called Aden. I may have tweaked the temperaments a little bit in a few places
(e.g.,
listing "cheerful" under "happy" and others like that) to make things a little simpler, but
otherwise, it's all from that source. Thanks, Aden!
Is the information accurate or vetted in any way?
Can't vouch for that, you'll have to ask Aden. In a few places some information did
seem a tad incongruous, but I'm not a dog expert, so it may just be my untrained perceptions.
Who are you?
I am a guy who appreciates dogs, does web development and has this venture called
Solid Ground Partnerships, amongst other things. Got suggestions? Use the contact form
under the menu to get in touch - I'd love to hear from you.
